Twelve charge ports — six DC rapid and six at 22 kW AC — delivered as a single turnkey design-and-build at a new council recycling depot, with PLUG carrying both CDM duty-holder roles and the site commissioned onto the Council's existing back office.

Abermule Waste Transfer Station is a newly built recycling bulking facility on Abermule Business Park near Newtown, and one of the sites where Powys County Council is moving its fleet to zero carbon. The work was funded by a Welsh Government grant, which set the conditions: a complete, working, handed-over installation — not a phased one.
The depot needed overnight AC charging for vehicles that sit still and rapid DC for those that don't, while remaining usable by staff and the public. Works had to be carried out inside an operating waste transfer station with HGVs running through it, requiring a securely fenced compound, shared welfare, asbestos protocols and protection sized for lorry impact. Powys also needed the new site integrated into its existing back-office platform — not added as a separate system.

PLUG delivered a full turnkey design and build, appointed as both principal designer and principal contractor under CDM 2015, taking concept design through to Stage 4 with RAMS and a construction phase plan agreed before work started.
Twelve charge ports were installed across six twin-outlet units — three DC rapid units with tethered CCS2 leads and three Autel MaxiCharger AC Ultra Street Dual at 22 kW per outlet — serving twelve marked bays from a central island. All switchgear, cabling and connection to the site's new 400 kVA substation was included, with load management across the installation and a sub-meter on every charger.
Hard-wired CAT 6 data was run to each charge point, with SIM retained as fallback. The site was commissioned onto the Council's own back-office platform in liaison with its incumbent provider, keeping every Powys site under one management system.
