Open data API
We publish live data about our public charge points under the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, in the OCPI 2.2.1 format. Access is free. Register below and we'll email you an API key straight away.
What we publish
- Locations, EVSEs and connectors, with opening hours and power.
- Live availability. A status change shows in the feed within 30 seconds.
- Tariffs, including the price per kWh.
Using the API
Start at the versions endpoint:
https://plugcharging.co.uk/ocpi/versions
Send your key in the Authorization header of every request. OCPI clients that send the token base64-encoded work too.
curl -H "Authorization: Token <your key>" https://plugcharging.co.uk/ocpi/versions
Each key can make 120 requests a minute.
Licence and access terms
Open data licence
The data published through this API is made available under the Open Government Licence v3.0. You may copy, publish, distribute, adapt and otherwise use it for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided you acknowledge the source in accordance with the licence.
API access terms
These terms govern access to the API only. They do not restrict how you use the data.
- API keys are issued free of charge. A key is for the use of the registered individual or organisation and must be kept confidential.
- Every request must include your API key in the Authorization header using the Token scheme.
- Requests must not exceed the published rate limit, currently 120 requests per minute per key. Availability data is updated within 30 seconds of a status change.
- You must not attempt to circumvent the rate limit, including by registering multiple keys for a single service. You must not interfere with the operation of the API, or attempt to access any part of the service other than the published endpoints.
- PLUG Charging may suspend or revoke a key that is used in breach of these terms. Where practicable, we will notify the registered notification address beforehand.
- We will notify the registered notification address of material changes to the API and of planned maintenance.
- The API is provided on a reasonable-endeavours basis and may change in line with the OCPI standard and the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023.
- We may update these terms from time to time. We will give at least 30 days' notice of material changes by email to the registered notification address and publish the revised terms on this page with a new version date. Continued use of the API after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
